Advent Season

Hanging of the Greens Service
Sunday, November 26 @ 10:30 a.m.
Join
us as we prepare the sanctuary for Advent and Christmas.  Through the ages, we have had reminders of Jesus' birth in the beautiful symbols of music, customs, and traditions so that we will not forget what God has done.  Help us celebrate this season of anticipation and preparation.
First Sunday of Advent
Sunday, December 3

Worship begins at 10:30 as
"We acknowledge our weariness"
We'll begin this season of hope by acknowledging our mixed emotions. Sometimes weariness can harden us and prevent us from living fully. Despite these feelings, we can affirm that we are made for joy.

This Advent season we will look at how the joy we feel during this time of year  is also intermixed with other emotions--anticipation, grief, loss, sadness, excitement.

Each week, both in Bible Study classes and during Worship we explore themes centered around the Gospel of Luke and ask "How does a weary world rejoice?"

Second Sunday of Advent
Sunday, December 10

Worship begins at 10:30 as
"We find joy in connection"
Our Children and Youth will present "A Very Special Child".  Our pageant is always a favorite, as our younger members tell the story of Jesus' birth in only the way they can.
Third Sunday of Advent
Sunday, December 17

Worship begins at 10:30 as
"We allow ourselves to be amazed"
The West
minster Chancel Choir will present a special Christmas Cantata, "And Glory Shone Around".  Through scripture-based narrative and music, listeners are invited to the humble birthplace of our Savior.  The music recalls the dark days of anguish for Israel, only to give way to the dawning of a new day of light and love when Christ is born.
A Service for the Weary
Wednesday, December 20
Worship begins at 6:00 p.m.
The constant
refrain on the radio, on television, all around, is the happiness of the season, about getting together with family and friends; we know this can remind many of what they have lost or never had.  This can make us feel alone.  We hope you will join us for a special contemplative service this evening.  We will worship together through prayer, scripture and music--  acknowledging that God is with us.  God's Word comes to shine a light in the darkness.

Fourth Sunday of Advent
Sunday, December 24

Worship begins at 10:30 as
"We sing stories of hope"
We'll hear Zechariah's song and Mary's song of hope "My soul magnifies God; my spirit rejoices in God"  Our Adult Bell Choir will perform during the service.
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
Sunday, December 24

Worship begins at 5:00 p.m. as
"We make room"
There was no place for Mary and Joseph when they made the journey to Bethlehem, as Mary gives birth to Jesus in a stable. God made a place for Jesus and drew the circle wider for shepherds and unexpected guests.
We will do the same.
Join us for this special candlelight service, f
or this is good news of great JOY for ALL people.
