In the fall of 2021 (has it been two years already?) we were introduced to the idea of “The Longest Table,” a type of block party that began in Tallahassee Florida. Neighbors and community members sit down together for a meal, at one big table, to break bread and talk to one another. Since that time, we have talked a lot about what that could look like in our context, and hosted two neighborhood block parties here at Westminster, one for our immediate neighbors, and one to celebrate our school children at the end of the school year.

 

This fall, we are excited to partner with restaurants, businesses, and the Midland Street Management Board to host “Bay City’s Welcome Table” right down Midland Street! On Saturday, September 23 from 11-2, parts of Midland Street will be closed for our welcome table event. We will provide food, music, games, and more- for and with our neighbors. The church’s main goal in being involved is, as always, to let our community know there we are here for them. Through the conversations around our tables, we hope to learn more about how we can love and serve our neighbors.
